Relational Somatic Therapy in Surrey, BC & Online

Under pressure? You need a place where you can finally exhale.

Things have been intense lately, and there's a lot on your shoulders.

Maybe you're here because you found yourself yelling at someone you love, or you just heard your spouse say the word 'divorce' for the first time.

Typically, you just hold it all in... and you've probably been white-knuckling through it alone. But something has to change.

It's time to find a new game plan, because let's be honest... 'powering through' just isn't cutting it anymore.

Because it's starting to cost you things you actually care about keeping. A client. A relationship. Your peace of mind.

I'm Andree Patenaude, Relational Somatic Therapist in BC and Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (ACCT #3270).

I can help you transform that inner pressure into more space: a quieter mind, a better relationship with your kids, and a sense that after all you've been through... you actually know who you are.

Our work is a place for you to exhale, a place for you to finally say some things out loud, and a process that helps you get some relief from the weight you've been carrying alone.

Together, we will find a new way for you to navigate your inner world without reactivity or shut-down running the show, so you can actually show up for what matters most.

Welcome

What Is Somatic Therapy

Much of what we feel is held below conscious awareness.

The charge you feel — jaw clenched, chest tight — lives in your survival system. It runs on instinct, sensory information, and predictions... not insight.

Talk therapy often works with your reflective brain, helping you find insight and behavioural change.

However, your system is also carrying unintegrated activation from your life experiences. In somatic therapy, we also include your body — to process the charge underneath the patterns and teach your system a new way of being based on the present, not the past.

In session, that looks like metabolizing the tightness in your chest instead of explaining it away. Letting a boundary land in your body, not just your words.

We know intuitively that we hold our life experiences in our body, and the research backs that up. In a randomized trial of trauma survivors published in the Journal of Traumatic Stress, most participants had meaningfully lower PTSD symptoms after 15 weeks of somatic experiencing treatment — 44% no longer met the clinical threshold at all.

The wider research on body-based therapy is still growing, but it points the same direction: real physiological change, not just a better story.

You can come to session and talk about whatever you want — but we'll also work with what's happening in your body.

You're a whole system — mind, body, and soul. We're helping you learn another skillset to work with yourself.

How We Work Together →

We sit together and talk about what's going on in your life, but we're not here to label you or figure you out. We work with what's happening in your body right now — the pressure in your chest, the tension in your jaw, the heaviness you feel — so it can move through your system and create more space inside.

Some sessions build the foundation — a tool, a strategy, something practical for your week. Others go deep — into the charge underneath the pattern, the stuff that's been building for years.

You don't have to narrate every detail of your past to make progress, and you'll leave with something real to help navigate your everyday life.

The Commitment →

This is ongoing work, not a one-time conversation. I offer standing weekly or biweekly appointments — think of it as having navigational support on retainer. It's a practice, not a quick fix, the same way training or conditioning is. Each week, you'll know there's somewhere you can go to finally exhale.
